Chris Squire, RIP

Chris Squire passed away Saturday, June 27th, at age 67, ending his battle with leukaemia. Yes' Fragile, a birthday gift from my sisters on my twelfth birthday, started my progressive music journey, and of course, his bass playing was a big part of that. To wit, just listen to the opening moments of "Beyond And Before" from Yes' debut album: Squire's bass nearly defined Yes music. This photo, from Fragile's insert, was quite iconic for my young impressionable mind, as I tried to count the number of overdubs on "The Fish (Shindleria Praematurus)". A few years later I purchased his solo album, Fish Out Of Water, perhaps the most indispensable album from the greater Yes canon. RIP Chris, you are legend.
