Dieter Moebius, RIP

Announced on Michael Rother's Facebook page:
"Very sad news today for all friends of Dieter Moebius and his unique music. Our friend, neighbour and collaborator passed away this morning, July 20th 2015. He will be missed dearly by all of us. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Irene. RIP, Dieter (Möbi)."
I'm sure he's up there making an album with Conny (Plank). The Swiss-born artist was 71 years old. RIP, elektronischen Pionier.

Chris Squire, RIP

Chris Squire passed away Saturday, June 27th, at age 67, ending his battle with leukaemia. Yes' Fragile, a birthday gift from my sisters on my twelfth birthday, started my progressive music journey, and of course, his bass playing was a big part of that. To wit, just listen to the opening moments of "Beyond And Before" from Yes' debut album: Squire's bass nearly defined Yes music. This photo, from Fragile's insert, was quite iconic for my young impressionable mind, as I tried to count the number of overdubs on "The Fish (Shindleria Praematurus)".

John Tout, RIP

From the Renaissance Facebook page,
"John Tout passed away this Friday, May 1st at 4.30pm from lung failure at The Royal Free Hospital, London, England. He was an amazing musician, highly contributing to the unique sound of the band from 1970 - 1980. He was the quiet (but funny) one in the band, always very caring towards the fans and good friend to Annie Haslam, Terence Sullivan, Jon Camp and Michael Dunford. He will always be in our hearts and music! Please share your thoughts and photos of John."

YES: PROGENY – Live from Seventy-Two

Yes are about to release a box set of seven live shows from their Fall 1972 US Tour, with a not so newly anointed Alan White on drums. The tapes are purportedly the source tapes for some of the 1973 Yessongs triple album and having been restored completely in the analog realm. The dates of the taps are as follows, with the same set list each night. A 2CD or 2LP sampler will also be released, and that's what I'll be in for.

Recording Dates:
31 Oct 1972: Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Esoteric to release unreleased 2nd Fields album

"Esoteric Recordings are pleased to issue the first ever release of the legendary 1972 “lost” second album self by Fields. Following the album’s release the band’s line-up changed with the departure of ALAN BARRY and the arrival of Frank Farrell from Supertramp. This line-up recorded a follow-up album in 1972 that was perplexingly shelved by CBS Records and remained consigned to the vaults for over forty years.
