Solar Fire > Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Artist: Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Label: Polydor
Catalog#: PD-6019
Format: Vinyl
Country: United States
Released: 1973-11
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Following his excursions with fusion in Chapter Three, Manfred Mann’s next venture sought something “earthier” and closer to rock. In 1971, Mann formed the Earth Band with drummer Chris Slade, bassist Colin Pattenden and guitarist and vocalist Mick Rogers. Dubbed Manfred Mann's Earth Band, they churned out four albums in the space of almost two years. Both Glorified Magnified and Messin' (US title Get Your Rocks Off) were solid efforts, illustrating that Mann had indeed assembled one cohesive band.

Space Ritual > Hawkwind

Artist: Hawkwind
Label: United Artists Records
Catalog#: UA-LA120-H
Format: Vinyl
Country: United States
Released: 1973-05
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Following the release of Doremi Fasol Latido the previous November, Hawkwind staged the concerts from which the live double-album Space Ritual was comprised. Hawkwind's visual side was always a large part of their concert event, from Liquid Len's (Jonathan Smeeton) kaleidoscopic light show to Amazonian dancer Stacia (Blake), the so-called "Barbarella of Notting Hill Gate." Although this visual artistry was reduced to a foldout gatefold cover, the album still presents the full-on live Hawkwind experience over four glorious sides of vinyl.

Starring Rosi > Ash Ra Tempel

Artist: Ash Ra Tempel
Label: Kosmische Musik
Catalog#: KM 58.007
Format: Vinyl
Country: Germany
Released: 1973
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Guitarist Manuel Göttsching, with bassist Hartmut Enke and the intermittent Klaus Schulze on drums, founded Ash Ra Tempel in 1971, after purchasing Pink Floyd's sound equipment in London. The trio had previously worked together with Conrad Schnitzler in Eruption. They released four albums of exemplary krautrock, combining blues influences with Jimi Hendrix pyrotechnics in freak out-style playing. The album's side-long tracks were mostly improvisational, and drew some similarity to the early Guru Guru albums.

Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Having recently parted ways with Robert Fripp, Pete Sinfield entered Command Studios in London with just about every other King Crimson alumnus to record his first (and only) solo record. And although he'd already capably filled the producer's chair for Roxy Music and PFM, on Still, he had assistance from Greg Lake and Mel Collins.
