Label: Deram
Catalog#: SDL14
Format: Vinyl
Country: United Kingdom
Released: 1973-05
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Violinist Darryl Way left Curved Air earlier in the year to form Wolf, and assembled a remarkably talented group: young guitarist John Etheridge had his professional start here, while Ian Mosley had previously drummed for Walrus. Canadian Dek Messecar joined on bass and vocals, and King Crimson's Ian McDonald produced Wolf's ensuing debut album, Canis Lupus. Needless to say, expectations were high. Way carried on his brand of progressive music, predictably mixing classical elements with heavy rock.

Contaminazione > Rovescio Della Madaglia, Il

Artist: Il Rovescio Della Medaglia
Label: RCA Italiana
Catalog#: DPSL 10593
Format: Vinyl
Country: Italy
Released: 1973
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Coming from Rome, Il Rovescio della Medaglia ("The Other Side of the Coin") was founded in 1971 by guitarist Enzo Vita, bassist Stefano Urso and drummer Gino Campoli, with Pino Ballarini eventually joining on vocals. Their debut album, La Bibbia, was a live recording from late 1971, and very much a heavy rock album. Vita's guitar playing was rugged and hard-riffing, and the band quickly developed a reputation as a premier live act.

Cosmic Century > Wallenstein

Artist: Wallenstein
Label: Kosmische Musik
Catalog#: KM 58.006
Format: Vinyl
Country: Germany
Released: 1973-12
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
In 1973, Wallenstein switched to Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser's Kosmische Musik label, and saw some personnel changes. Jerry Berkers left and was replaced by bassist Dieter Meier; while a new member, Joachim Reiser, joined on violin. The band then rechristened itself as "The Symphonic Rock Orchestra" and released the excellent Cosmic Century album. Jürgen Dollase's piano still dominates, but as the lead-off track "Rory Blanchford" attests, Reiser's violin is indeed a new texture.

Catalog#: TRI 1004, TRI.1004
Format: Vinyl
Country: Italy
Released: 1973
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Semiramis was another Italian group that forged a substantial legacy based on one recording. Formed in Rome in the early 70s by the brothers Zarrillo—keyboardist Maurizio and vocalist Michele—the band also featured bassist Marcello Reddavide and drummer Memmo Pulvano. Like Cervello, they were all teenagers at the time. Also a guitarist, brother Michele joined in 1972, replacing the band's original vocalist. Then Semiramis earned a slot at the Festival pop di Villa Pamphili in Rome, held in late May 1972.
