Reviews for the Third Edition

Reviews for the third edition of The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive rock (will be updated).

Totally missed this review! Thank you Pete Pardo and Sea of Tranquility!

Rich Williams

Richard Allen “Rich” Williams was born in 1950, in Topeka, Kansas.

Martin Barre

Martin Lancelot Barre was born in 1946, in Kings Heath, outside Birmingham.
“I was born in 1946 and when I see photos of post-war Britain, the kids playing amongst the rubble, houses missing, the terrible, terrible mess, it’s not the Britain that I experienced. By the early 50s, you know, most of the rebuilding had been done. The post-war years were obviously very grim with rationing, so by 50s things were getting better for everyone and they didn’t want to talk about the war. People had moved on from it.”

Christian von Grumbkow

Christian von Grumbkow was born in 1946, in the city of Oberhausen, Germany.

Hugh Banton

Hugh Robert Banton was born in 1949, in Yeovil, Somerset, England.
“To me, WWII has always seemed [like] an age before I was born—obviously, it was not, which must be infant perception. Th ere were always war movies on at the cinema; this carried on way into the 1960s, but there was undoubted optimism everywhere from 1950 on, especially once food-rationing finished. I think that drew a line.”

Dave Lawson

David Clive Lawson was born in 1945 in Alton, Hampshire.

Neil Peart, RIP

Total shock. Neil Peart has passed at age 67. From Rolling Stone: "The cause was brain cancer, which he had been quietly battling for three years, according to Elliot Mintz, a spokesperson for the Peart family. A representative for the band confirmed the news to Rolling Stone."

RIP, Neil Ellwood Peart, 1952 - 2020.

The Strawberry Bricks Guide to Progressive Rock, 3rd Edition

The third edition will be published via KDP, which is Amazon. The books are printed "on demand" like all previous editions. The 3rd edition will be priced at USD $24.95, and an equivalent amount in the other regions.

The book is finished, now to figure out review copies, press, publicity, etc. Expected in late March.

The Rutles > Rutles, The

Artist: The Rutles
Label: Warner Bros. Records
Catalog#: HS 3151
Format: Vinyl
Country: US
Released: 1978-04-07
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
The Rutles were a fictional band created by Monty Python member Eric Idle and ex-Bonzo Dog Dooh Dah Band member Neil Innes after The Beatles. The pair conceived the Beatles-eque song “I Must Be In Love” while working on their Rutland Weekend Television series for BBC. The concept gained traction to an hour long film All You Need Is Cash when Saturday Night Live’s producer Lorne Michaels and director Gary Weis jumped aboard.

Derek Shulman

Derek Victor Shulman was born in 1947, in The Gorbals, Glasgow, Scotland.

I was born in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland, in an area called the Gorbals. From what my brother Phil has told me, it was similar to areas like South Bronx or Watts back in the day. It was an incredibly rough and dangerous area, full of tenements with Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, Catholics from Ireland, and Protestants from Glasgow all violently fighting for their turf.
