Totally missed this review! Thank you Pete Pardo and Sea of Tranquility!

Glenn Cornick, RIP

From the Jethro Tull website:
"It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Glenn Cornick, bass player with Jethro Tull from the band’s inception 1968 until 1970. Of course, he had also played with the John Evan Band for the year during 1967 and so his contribution to the geographical transition from Blackpool to London and into the professional music scene was considerable.

The Power and The Glory 5.1 remix

Props to Steven Wilson on his 5.1 remix of Gentle Giant's 1974 classic, Power and The Glory. To my ears, it's the aural equivalent of being in the middle of the room or stage - completely enveloped in sound. And of course, hats off to GG, as this was about as good as good would get for the band, and the genre. A true element of style album, perfectly suited for surround sound.

Can I wish for [[releases/three-friends|Three Friends]] next?

Hold Your Fire > Patto

Artist: Patto
Label: Vertigo, Vertigo
Catalog#: VEL 1008, VEL-1008
Format: Vinyl
Country: US
Released: 1971
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Amazing musicianship already given, for the band’s second album, Hold Your Fire, Patto pulled out some of their best songwriting. The lead-off and title track “Hold Your Fire” is the post-hippie anthem, complete with some of Ollie Halsall’s slickest guitar work at the fade. Note the release date; this is some of the earliest “shredding” on record. “You, You Point Your Finger” cops a somber mood, with more of Mike Patto’s poignant lyrics about the counter-culture vs. the establishment; again, Halsall’s emotive lead toward the end just kills it.

Genesis > Gods, The

Artist: Gods
Label: Columbia
Catalog#: SCX 6286
Format: Vinyl
Country: UK
Released: 1968-10-00
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Hailing from Hatfield, Hertfordshire, guitarist Mick Taylor and brothers John Glascock and Brian Glascock, bass and drums respectively, were originally in groups as schoolmates. Adding Ken Hensley on keyboards and vocals, they changed their name to The Gods in 1965. Taylor soon left to join John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (replacing Peter Green), while the Glascocks also strayed from the band.

Living In Fear > Tempest

Artist: Tempest
Label: Bronze Records
Catalog#: ILPS 9267
Format: Vinyl
Country: United Kingdom
Released: 1974-02
Strawberry Bricks Entry:
Tempest recorded a second album, Living In Fear, in late 1973. Ollie Halsall, fresh from a defunct Patto, brought a more immediate guitar as well as lead vocals to the band. The album was produced by Gerry Bron, with Geoff Emerick behind the controls. Halsall's "Funeral Empire" opens, a solid rocker with some creative synthesizer and a great break, while a cover of The Beatles' "Paperback Writer," featured in their live set, follows.
